2. They are diurnal. They need to be awake when the light is out so they can find the acorn trees and take it back to there home to hoard it for the winter.

3. The adult Acorn Woodpecker has a brownish-black head, back, wings and tail, white forehead, throat, belly and rump. The eyes are white.There is a small part on the small of their backs were there are some green feathers. The adult male has a red cap starting at the forehead, whereas females have a black area between the forehead and the cap. The white neck, throat and forehead patches are distinctive identifiers.When flying,they take a few flaps of their wings and drop a foot or so.You can see white circles on the wings while flying. Acorn woodpeckers have a call that is almost like they are laughing.

4. The Acorn Woodpecker likes fruits, seeds, oat catkins, and insects. They mostly eat acorns as in that's why there name is the acorn wood peckere

Cooking With My Family Photo Essay

The meal i decided  to make was tuna and macaroni salad.

Below is some ingredients and how to make it!

This is the macaroni 

This is the tuna

This is 3 tablespoons of mayo

This is green onion that you have to chop into little peaces

And this is what you make by simply just boiling the macaroni for about 10 mins
Then chop the green onion into small sized peaces
after that you simply just drain the water form the macaroni and mix all the ingredients into a big bowl  and there you go!

24 Hour Photo Essay

My math and science teacher wanted us to take a picture of everything we ate for 24 hours. So here is what i ate for 24 hours :)

For breakfast I ate a apple with a orange and that filled me up quickly!

I had sushi for lunch and i saved 4 rolls for when i get hungry later on in the day.

I had 2 water bottles

I had 1 peace of baked breaded talapia that my mother made for dinner,  but by the time i remembered i had to take a picture of it it was almost done.

And for the next day for breakfast i ate some cubed honeydew.

The Hunger Games Movie Review

 

Wow. What i thought about "The Hunger Games" movie was that it was pretty bad. Some of the reasons were because they took out so many scenes and the scenes were super short. They took away some characters that i was looking forward to see the avox girl but they didn't put her in the movie, which is so crazy because she was a really important person in the book so she should have been important in the movie. I'm just so disappointed in this movie. One scene that i wanted to see so bad was when Katniss and Peeta had to leave and Effie started to cry because she would miss them but no, they didn't put that part in the movie either.

What i think is important.

Another scene I was looking forward for was when Rue died. I was so excited when Rue and Katniss made a alliance but seriously, they were like in 5 scenes before Rue died. They didn't show the connection between them like they did in the book. In the book it says that Katniss was so close to Rue as if she was Prim but I didn't see that in the movie. The scenes were so short to and they skipped a lot of scenes. Like when Katniss and Rue made the alliance with Katniss all they did was eat and then the next scene was Katniss telling Rue her plan on destroying the careers food. They didn't show the part when Rue sleeps with Katniss on the tree and they have like a little moment. When they didn't even show that I just wanted to walk out of the movie theater and not watch the rest of the movie but at the same time I wanted to stay to see what else would happen. As I have said before, Rue was my favorite characters and I was look very forward about seeing her in the movie, but i guess at the end of the day the director makes the decision.   

Another character that I was looking forward to seeing was the red avox girl. She was in the movie for about 30 seconds in the back round. It wasn't like in the book where the avox girl is a important character, she was just a back round person. I was super mad that she wasn't in the movie like she was in the book. She was another character that I liked a lot. This is another reason why I hated the movie was because of these things, the director may think that people won't notice but no, people did notice like me. I thought in the book Katniss and the avox girl had a special connection like they were meant to meet each other. 

What were some differences between the book and the movie?

There were many differences between the book and the movie. I'll just point out the main parts but there were a lot if changes. The very first thing that I noticed was that in the book it said that when Katniss was in the room so people can visit her, Madge visited her and gave her the Pin, but in the movie she was at a little store looking place and she found it and she asked the lady working there how much it was but the lad said she could have it. Since they changed that part of the movie, they didn't show Madge in the movie.  I wasn't really looking forward to seeing her, but they still shouldn't have changed that part. And in the same scene, she gets a visit from Peeta's dad and he gives her a cookie. but in the movie they didn't add that ether. A big thing that was really different was that the scenes were super short. I mean like, if they couldn't make a 5 hour movie then you should have made it into two different parts. Another huge thing about the movie that they change was the special connection between Katniss and Rue. In the movie, they were barley in four scenes together before Rue died. That was the saddest part because i thought that that part of the book was super important.

What did you like/dislike about the movie?

I disliked how short the scenes were. They took out so many scenes, why couldn't the at least keep the scenes the same length as it was in the book. One big part of the movie that i thought was super short was the whole 4 scenes that Katniss and Rue were in. I mean in the movie they showed this whole special connection between Katniss and Rue. In the movie, not so much. What happened in the movie was Katniss woke up and saw Rue behind a tree and said " hey, want to make a alliance? There not the only ones that can." and then they ate some food, and then out of no where Katniss is telling Rue her plan to get rid of the careers food. Like come on, really? is this a joke because it isn't very funny. Got me so mad when Rue died because they barley showed her in the movie. I think that one part of the movie they should have left it long because Katniss mentioned in the book that she thought of Rue as if she was Prim, and we all know how important Prim was to Katniss so they should have made it that Rue was equally as important as Prim. Then right after Rue died she finds Peeta. Way to short for my opinion, but i kind of understand why it was short because the book was mostly commentary from Katniss, and i don't think they could have done that in the movie. I am still really disappointing.


Were the characters different in the movie then you imagined in the book? 


Yes, One main character that i thought was going to be the same was Haymitch, but i think he was the total opposite then what he was like in the book. One main thing was he wasn't a fat drunk. in the whole movie he probably took 4 sips of wine? In the book it says that Haymitch was a fat, drunk, rude person and calls Katniss sweet heart. but in the movie he was super fit, barley drank and probably called Katniss sweet heart twice.  A scene i was looking forward to was when Haymitch falls off the stage in the reaping because of how drunk he was, he wasn't even in the reaping. Katniss and Peeta didn't even get to meet Haymitch till they got onto the train. Oh yeah and one character that i thought was going to be important in the movie that they didn't even put in the movie was the red headed avox girl. As i said with Rue, Katniss and the avox girl had a special connection in the book. It was almost like the avox girl knew what Katniss was going through. It was a big disappointment that she wasn't even in the movie, talk about how different she was in the movie. I think that was probably the biggest mistake that the director made.


What kind of moviegoer like this movie and what kind wont?


Well, I think the people that won't like it are the people that are die hard fans of the books like i am, and re-read the books over and over again. The people that had really high hopes for this movie.
For the people that might like it are the people that haven't read the book and they heard The Hunger Games name first from the trailer. The people that just want to enjoy a good family/romance movie.
I felt like the movie was mostly focused about Katniss' and Peeta's relationship. I didn't like that at all.


What will you rate it? 


I rate this movie a 2 and a half star. I give it that many stars because of the lack of camera work, the lack of characters and how short the scenes were. That is my final review for this whole Hunger Games series. Thank you all so much for reading my blog post! Oh yeah, and may the odds be ever in your favor :). I only put the smiley face because i loved the book and a big thanks to my teacher for getting me interested to this series! 

History/China

Today I learned that to make the great wall of China, they had to kill 10,000 people or else it wouldn't be built. But they found a person that its name represented 10,000 so they just killed him. Another thing that i learned was that if you slept during you were working on the wall, they bury you on the spot you slept. That's really harsh.

Jihad

 What facet of Islam did you represent?

I presented Jihad. The people i presented it with were Sam, Martin and Amanda.

What are some concepts that you learned? 

I learned that Jihad could be having war, or it could be a spiritual thing, it could go ether way. Some concepts that i learned were that Jihad could be performed with the heart and the hand. There hands for doing good and correcting wrong and the heart by Resisting evil and bad habits.

Most of the stuff I already knew since i am a Muslim. Overall i thought this was a pretty cool project. 

The Hunger Games Chapters 25-27

• What do you think is going to happen to (character) in the future? Make predictions.

Wow. In these few chapters what happened was Cato died, and it was a really long death to. He died from these weird looking werewolf things, and Katniss realized that the Werewolf's looked like the other tributes that died which was crazy. Katniss and Peeta were freezing and so they were were actually waiting for a hovercraft to come pick them up because they were the last two and they were both from the same district so they won! But they waited forever until they heard a voice, a familiar voice, it was Claudius templsmith. He said through the speaker and said " Greeting to the final contestants of the seventy-fourth Hunger Games. The earlier revision has been revoked. loser examination of the rule book has disclosed that only one winner may be allowed. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor." Katniss was really surprised that he said that but then Peeta leaned over her and told her that he kinda knew that they would do something like that. So there idea was to commit suicide by eating the left over berries that killed Fox Face. Then the capitol didn't like that so they let the both of them win. They were so happy! Star crossed lovers. So after they got all changed up and healed they were interviewed. But lets skip that part and go to the juicy part! They were on the train leaving the capitol to go home and then Peeta found out that Katniss was just acting to like him when he actually liked her. Then they got to District 12 and Peeta told Katniss to do the the act one more time and then it ended. I loved this book so much, i hate books but i could not put this book down! I recommend this book to everyone. I think in the next book Katniss and Peeta might hate each other and Gales family might move in with Katniss because she has a nice house and maybe they might get married! 

The Hunger Games Chp. 22 - 24

• What would you do if you were (character) at this point in the book?

I am so shocked right now! In these coupe of chapters Peeta's leg healed enough so that he could at least walk. Since Katniss saw the improvement of his leg she thought it would be a good time to hunt because they didn't have much food left and it was really hard to hunt in the rain, but eventually the rain stopped. While they were walking back to where Katniss and Rue camped out, Peeta was making a lot of noise and since he made so much noise, most of the animals heard them coming and they ran away. Thank you Peeta your a big help. Katniss decided to go hunting for animals and let Peeta look for berries since he was crying bloody merry every time he took a step! Then Katniss came back and saw that Peeta was not there anymore and she got really worried and yelled his name out thinking that Cato might have taken him. But no, he was near the river looking for some more berries, thank you Peeta again for scaring me like crazy! But the most funniest thing was how Fox Face died. Some of the berries that Peeta picked were poisonous and the clever Fox Face took some and she died right after she ate them. Who would have thought Fox Face would die that way, because i didn't think she would. If i were to be Katniss in this point of the book i would be really depressed because first shes in the hunger games and has no idea how here family is and second she is taking care of Peeta and hes kind of hard to take care of. Peeta thought that Cato killed Fox Face but then Katniss had to explain to him that the berries were poisonous, well i guess this counts as Peeta's first kill.

At the end of chapter 24 all the water that was in the pond was dried out and so they went to where the careers camp was because they had a huge pond of water and when they got there they made sure that Cato wasn't there, but he came in running towards Katniss and Peeta but he wasn't running after them, he was running away from a pack of unknown animals in the arena. I can not wait for the last two chapters because this Friday we will be going to see The Hunger Games in theater and after that i will be making a comparison between the movie and the book but i don't think i have ever read a book then watched the movie and like the movie better. In the books it has more details and i really like that. May the odds be ever in your favor and i hope you enjoyed reading my blog!

The Hunger Games Chp. 19-21

• How do you feel about the character at this point in the book?

Once Katniss heard that there could be 2 tributes can win that are from the same district, she went out to find Peeta she tried to think of stuff Peeta said to see where he is. When she found him he was in a mud pond i guess you could say. She helped him up and found out that his leg was injured really badly. i thought it was kind of silly of him to hide in a mud pond but if i was in the hunger games and my leg was injured then yeah, i might do something like that. What Katniss realized was that every time that she kisses Peeta they get one pot of soup. Now to think of it, i don't think that Haymitch is really a bad person after all because i think he actually wants them to win. I think Haymitch is was going toward Katniss' side more because when Peeta saw all the stuff that Haymitch sent to Katniss, he realized that Haymitch never sent him anything. Katniss was all over Peeta like she would kiss Peeta every now and then and i think one of the reasons that they let 2 people from the same district win was probably because the audience liked the whole romance thing going on about them. Katniss heard Claudius Templesmith saying that they had backpacks for every person that was still left in the arena that had things that they desperately needed and that each backpack had there district number. Katniss really needed medicine for Peeta for his leg because it was getting worse and worse every single day. I really liked these couple of chapters because Katniss saw some of the careers and she got caught up with some trouble. I think the nicest part in these chapters was when Thresh helped Katniss get away from the careers, he probably did that since she took care of Rue because they were both from the same district. I absolutely can not wait for the movie to actually see these thing go into action!

1. How does your total calories compare to the recommended 2000 calories per day?
Well i got 20.1% out of 100% and i think i don't get enough calories for 24 hours but then at the time i felt kinda sick so yeah.
2. What time of day do you eat most of your calories - morning, afternoon or evening?
 Usually I eat around the afternoon.
 3. What does your answer to question #2 imply about your long term health? 
Well, i think i should eat most of my food around the morning so i could loose enough calories and have enough energy for school    
4. Describe how many minutes you exercise per day and what activities you engage in on a regular basis. I ride my bike around my neighborhood that's about 1 mile with my sisters so it takes about 1 hour and a couple of minutes to go all the way around but it we do most of the exersi
5. Use the internet to find out how many calories you burn doing the activities you listed in #4. Considering that the average person burns about 2000 calories per day without doing any extra exercise, how many total calories do you think you burn each day? 

I lose 327 calories a day because it takes about 1 hour and a couple of minutes to go around my neighborhood and if the average human loses 2000 calories without other activities then 

6. What is the most important thing that you can change about your diet or lifestyle to improve your long term health?  I should exerciser way more and eat more but healthier foods so i have the energy that i could exerciser even more

The Hunger Games Chp. 16-18

• What has happened so far that has changed your perspective about a character?

I'm speechless because this book just gets better in every chapter! Fox Face has been really quiet in the hunger games. She hasn't killed anyone shes just in her own little word. When Katniss was trying to burn the careers food, she saw Fox Face she was stealing some of the career's items and she didn't know Katniss was watching her, and when she was stealing the food Katniss saw that she was going toward the pile of items but she wasn't walking, she was walking toward the items really suspiciously, as it someone was stealing a diamond. Then Katniss was thinking and she found out that the boy from district 3 probably reactivated the mine bombs so no one can steal the food. He's smarter than i thought

The saddest thing that can possibly happen, Rue died :(. I have said before Rue was one of my favorite characters and its so sad. I knew that she was going to die but i didn't want it to happen so soon. Rest in peace my little friend, but i really liked that Katniss covered Rue with flowers before the hovercraft took her body. Another sad part was when Katniss blew up the food her ears became deaf, when i was reading that part i was trying to put myself into her shoes but its pretty hard since i can't really relate to her. The thing that surprised me the most was when Claudius Templesmith announced that there was a rule change and the rule change was that if 2 people from the same district were the last ones left they would both be announced winners, and the first thing that came to my mind were i hope Katniss and Peeta win.

The Hunger Games Chapters 13-15

• What would you do if you were (character) at this point in the book?

I am so amazed! What happened in these chapters were the game makers were getting bored of what was happening in the arena and so what they did was while Katniss was sleeping they threw fire balls near her so it could make some really good t.v, and while they were throwing the fire balls Katniss got burnt on her thighs. That must hurt a lot but she wanted to look brave because she knew the cameras were on her and if she looked weak then she wouldn't get a lot of sponsors and then Primm would be worried if she did. If i were to be Katniss i would be really scared because she has a really big burn on her thigh and shes kind of giving up on the games because she thinks she will never heal but then Haymitch decides to giver her this ointment for burns and so that took care of things, but before that she really had no hope. I think my favorite part in these chapters were when Katniss was sleeping in her sleeping bag up on a tree and then she heard the careers coming and they were right under her so she yelled at them because she knew that they couldn't climb as high as she did so they tried to climb high enough to aim and kill her but they always fell then she saw eyes sparkling and she thought it was a possum but it was rue and rue pointed at something on top of Katniss and Katniss looked up and saw a hive, she found out it was a hive of tracker jackers. Tracker jackers were genetically modified for the war but then they didn't need them so they let them go. And there stings has a effect that when they sting them the bump gets as big as a plum.so she chopped the branch that was holding the hive and it fell on the careers and they all got stung. Glimmer and girl from district 4 were stung so many times they died. And i think my other favorite part was when Katniss and Rue made a alliance

• What would you do if you were (character) at this point in the book?

Another few great chapters! I can't believe that Peeta is actually trying to help the other people kill Katniss. So far in these chapters, they started the hunger games. There are only 13 people alive so far and many of them died when they were all trying to find the cornucopia which has weapons and almost everything you need to survive. Its a good thing that Haymitch told Katniss not to go after the cornucopia or else she would have died. If  I were Katniss i would be really mad and shocked at Peeta because she thought they would work together but he kinda back stabbed her. But you may never know because Peeta might have a really good plan. So in this part it was almost sunrise and Katniss was sleeping up in a tree so no ones will see her and no one did, but then she woke up and she heard branches cracking and she looked really close and it was a person. But she didn't know who, luckily who ever it was they didn't see Katniss. The person was making a fire and so Katniss was looking the whole time and then some one comes running after the person and so Katniss hears the person scream and thought she was a girl. So the person killed her and then a whole group of people came to where the fire was and they were all together and so she heard there conversation and she heard Peeta's voice. I'm really exited to read the next few chapters!!

One thing that I learned this semester that i will never forget is how to do fermi math problems. At first I was really confusied and it was really hard but wes helped me get through and now I can do fermie math for the rest of my life! Lets do a example problem. How many times do i blink in one day. First you get the average number of someone blinking in one minute so for example im going to use 27. then multiply it by 60 because theres 60 minutes in one hour and so that would be 1,620 and so then you muliply that by 24 since theres 24 hours in a day and you will get your answer which is  38,880, so the average person blinks 38,880 times in one day

Hunger Games Ch. 8-9

• What would you do if you were (character) at this point in the book?

Wow! So much has happened in these few chapters. In these few chapters there actually getting ready to do a interview in front of everyone in the capitol and its going live to all districts. Katniss is having a really hard time practicing because Haymitch told her the she has to pretend that she likes the people and she doesn't because there betting on how long shes going to live and she doesn't like that. If i were to be Katniss at this point i would be really nervous. But when they started to do the interview, Katniss was probably the most liked person there! She did so good that i think that she will get a lot of sponsors. And then it happened... Peeta told everyone in his interview that he likes Katniss! I would have never thought that Peeta would like Katniss since they have to fight to the death. I think that in part 2 of this book will be about the games. I think this will be the best part ever! I really want to read ahead but i can't. The person that I'm worried the most for is Rue because shes kind of my favorite character even though they never talk about her much. She said that shes hard to catch, I'm still afraid that she will die because shes the youngest there, and a lot of the other kids are a lot older and probably more trained then her. I'm really exited to read the rest of the book and see what else surprising will happen in this book!

STAR Test Math

In our class we took practice problems for the STAR test. One thing i learned from doing this was read the question very carefully. Sometimes the questions can be very tricky and you might think it said something but it might have said something else, which will effect your test score.


Another great thing i learned was guessing. Everyone comes along really hard questions in this test and many people don't want to waste time so they circle a random answer to move on. It only takes a couple more seconds if you just read the problem and then take away the answers that you think that are wrong immediately so you have a 50-50 % chance that you will get the answer and for me this has been a great help

One more strategy that i learned was to check your work to see if you missed a step in a math problem or if you read the math question wrong then it would be better if you correct it then skip it and not care about it because it will effect your grade alot. You would be really suprized if you look back and see how many problems you might have skipped or did it wrong.

Pea Growth Rate

In our 7th grade science class we were studying about the pea growth of 2 different kinds of peas, one was the Oregon Suger Pod 2 and the Mamoth Melting Snap. We planted our plants on January 13 and started data around january 17. We measured the hight in centameaters and found out that the Oregon Suger Pod 2 was bigger then the Mamoth Melting Snap, at least in my group. above this blog is a picture of our graph that we made on google docs from gathering our data. we didn't get to continue on and see how much bigger the peas got but some sort of rodent ate the plants.

My topic is over spending on jails. The government spends $44,000 a year for 1 inmate, and they use our money ( tax money ) to pay for them. If they continue paying this much, we will be in a lot of trouble. Because the percent of inmates increases so much. If we take away some of the luxuries that people in jails have, we would save a lot of money. I think that my topic will effect living organisms in 2032 because we spend so much money on jails  that we wont have enough money for schools. If we stop this we will have enough money for schools and if we do this we would lower the percent of people going to jail.

The Hunger Games, Chapter 1 - 7

What do you think is going to happen to (character) in the future? Make predictions.

So far it looks like Katniss is going to win because she got a really high score when she was showing her skill to the game makers. While Peeta is being a little bit quiet and probably has a really good plan to win. The person who really interests me in Rue, Peeta only got one more point higher than Rue, which was 8. Rue is only 12 so there is a big chance that she wont really win. So far i think its getting to the interesting part. I wonder whats going on in panam and how Katniss' mom and Prim are doing. At the moment, if i were Katniss i wouldn't trust Peeta because when they are in the arena he might have Katniss as a big target because he already knows her really well and her techniques. I really dislike Haymitch because he is a big disadvantage for Katniss and Peeta because there mentor, which is Haymitch, directs them and helps them what to do in the arena and since Haymitch is a big fat drunk, they probably wont need help from him. I think the author should write a book that's just about the people who aren't mentioned very much in this book like Rue and Effie Trinket because i would read the book to find out more about the character and how there life's are. How i feel about the book at this point is that i want to keep on reading and it is getting really interesting now.

My info-graph is about how jails cost more then going to a big college, in this info-graph i used the college Princeton.
 From my first rough  draft to the final draft, there have been many changes. The first big change was color, most of the critiques i got said that i really needed to add color. All of my rough drafts were colorless because my info-graph is mostly about jails and jail isn't very colorful, but i added some color because it makes the info-graph pop out more. My info-graph was actually a bar graph in the beginning, but a lot of people said a bar graphs are boring so i wanted to make it more creative. now it doesn't look much like a bar graph because i didn't add the numbers, but if you want you may still call it a bar graph if you want to.

Dear Barak Obama:

I am concerned that the government is spending too much money on jails. It spends $78.95 per inmate in jail a day. By just taking away coffee, we will save $150,000 a year per jail. That’s a lot of money and we really need to save money because our government is collapsing. I have three good reasons why you should make a change. First is that prisoners have way too much luxuries that not even poor people have, and poor people didn’t even do anything bad. Second is jails are getting too many inmates a year and the percent of people get larger by a huge amount. Third, it costs a lot of money per inmate a year and most of the people that go to jail have a better experience than not being jail and return.

Prisoners get cable, water plumbing, enough to eat, access to a gym, proper clothing, proper dental care, their own bed and the choice to go to collage . Poor people don’t have cable, water plumbing, enough to eat, access to a gym, proper clothing and so on, but they never did anything bad. Prisoners are supposedly being “punished” and they have more luxuries than poor people. Even homeless people commit crimes on purpose so they have a proper shelter and food in prison.

The United States currently has the largest inmate population in the world. According to the U.S Bureau of Justice, statistics in 2008, more than 7.3 million people were on probation, in jail, or on parole at year-end. Approximately one in every 18 men in the U.S. is behind bars or being monitored. One out of six prisoners in California is serving a life sentence. By 2020, 16% of those serving life sentence will be elderly. To ease jail overcrowding, building new jails is considered every year.

It cost $45,000 dollars a year per inmate. It cost less to send your child to the college Princeton than it would to send your child to jail. 60-70% of former inmates return to jail within the first year of getting out of prison or jail because their life outside of jail was worse (maybe they were homeless.)

I think we should spend less money on jails and spend money on more useful stuff like schools so kids don’t end up in jail in the first place. I think if you don’t change things, then we will be losing too much money for no reason. I hope you take my opinions into consideration.
